In this workshop, participants will learn to apply good principles of data collection to assure that data - both qualitative and quantitative - will be useful in making project decisions. The emphasis will be on efficient methods that can keep data collection at a manageable level. Topics will include designing and administering questionnaires and developing guides for conducting interviews. Approved for 4 MLA contact hours.
Susan Barnes is the Assistant Director of the NN/LM Outreach Evaluation Resource Center. She received her MLS from the University of Washington in 1978 and held positions at the National Library of Medicine, UCLA, Columbia, and Cornell before joining the staff of the Regional Medical Library at the University of Washington Health Sciences Library in 2000.
In this workshop, participants will learn about Content Managment Systems (CMSs). What is a CMS? Why would a CMS be usefull for your library? How to choose a CMS that fits your library and much more.
Patrick Shaw brings more than 20 years of nonprofit experience from NPower, where he leads a growing team of skilled database and website experts in NPower's effort to assist nonprofits. Projects for nonprofits include creating websites for Unitus, Social Venture Partners, and the School of Acrobatics and New Circus Arts. Database projects include an online application project for artists at 4Culture, a rich volunteer and client matching/tracking tool for MultiFaith Works, and a donor management system for the Initiative for Global Development. His prior work includes event management, skilled long term care, accounting and fundraising and he holds a degree in English Literature from Seattle University. Patrick brings a combined passion for the nonprofit sector and technology to NPower, where he and his team create effective solutions for managing data and sharing information.
This presentation will feature an introduction and demonstration of HEAL-WA, a state wide health information resources portal for health care providers. This project is funded by license fees from select health care providers in Washington State. The presentation will conclude with a question & answer session.
